ISPA confirms conference to go ahead despite Mandalay Bay tragedy
The International Spa Association’s annual conference at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas will go ahead, despite the killing spree in which a gunman took at least 50 lives.
Organisers confirmed that the conference, from 16 to 18 October, will go ahead as planned despite last night’s events when a gunman opened fire with a semi-automatic weapon on revelers attending a nearby music festival. ISPA president Lynne McNees said she had received a handful of enquiries from exhibitors asking about preparations for the event and confirmed that no changes have been made to the conference or the pre-event logistics for exhibitors. “We've learned over time how strong our spa community is when it joins together and now is the time for us to do that once again,” said McNees in a statement. “We hope you will join us in sending thoughts and positive energy to those who were impacted by the horrible tragedy in Las Vegas last night. “In two short weeks, we will gather together as a community and rally around those who have been impacted by this event, as well as the other tragic events that have unfolded over the last few weeks. “We are sensitive to how this has impacted our team at Mandalay Bay as we can only imagine how difficult it is to endure such a tragedy. As we learn more after they have time to process this senseless act, we will be in touch and share more information. Together we stand united.” The Spa Business and Spa Opportunities team plans to attend the ISPA Conference, and will bring you news from the event through our website and in our magazine. Keynote speakers at this year’s conference include social psychologist Amy Cuddy; author Daniel Pink and NFL quarterback Peyton Manning. The three-day event features speakers, professional development sessions and an industry trade show.
